AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL AUDIT OFFICE: LIBERALS’ SCHOOL FUNDING BUNGLE

A scathing Australian National Audit Office report released today, shows the Liberals have bungled the delivery of Labor’s needs based funding for schools.

According to the report, Liberal governments have failed to ensure school funding has been properly distributed on a needs basis as required by Commonwealth law.  And they have not used “available data to effectively monitor the impact of schools funding” or “to provide greater transparency and accountability.”

It proves the Liberals cannot be trusted with our schools – they have completely failed our kids, their parents and teachers.

Malcolm Turnbull claims that his new unfair school funding policy is based on “rigorous analysis”.  It clearly isn’t, given how incompetent the Australian National Audit Office has proved the Liberals.

Mr Turnbull’s unfair policy cuts $17 billion from schools.

While public schools and Catholic parish schools bear the brunt of these cuts, many elite private schools will actually do much better.

That’s not fair, needs based, or sector blind.

Malcolm Turnbull will always put elite private schools first.

In fact, under Mr Turnbull, private schools are getting more funding than ever before.

While Malcolm Turnbull is cutting school funding, including to some of our most disadvantaged students, he's happy to spend more than $65 billion to give multinationals and millionaires a tax cut.  His priorities are all wrong.

Parents, teachers, and our children deserve better

Labor has committed to restoring the $17 billion Mr Turnbull has cut from schools.

Unlike Malcolm Turnbull, we will make sure that the biggest funding increases go to the neediest schools, in the fastest time.
