BIGGEST THREAT TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS: LIBERALS’ MASSIVE CUTS

Parents and teachers know the biggest threat to public schools is the Liberals’ massive funding cuts.

That’s why Australia’s teacher unions and many public education advocates are campaigning so hard against Malcolm Turnbull’s plan to rip $17 billion from schools.  Labor applauds them.

I’m sure public school parents would take a very dim view of anyone who supported Mr Turnbull’s unfair new funding regime, given it’s a disaster for public schools.

As Labor has said all along, Mr Turnbull’s new unfair funding regime is particularly bad for public schools.

Data from the Parliamentary Budget Office and the National Catholic Education Commission proves it.

Mr Turnbull’s cuts hit public schools hardest.

Public schools cop a massive 86 per cent of the cuts.

Low-fee Catholic schools cop 12 per cent of the cuts, while independent schools, including some elite high fee schools, get a cut of just 2 per cent.

With Mr Turnbull’s current arrangements, 85 per cent of public schools will never reach their fair funding level.

The Liberals call their new funding regime fair.  It’s anything but.

Under pressure over his unfair funding regime, Mr Turnbull’s Education Minister has even resorted to slurs.  He should apologise.

Under Mr Turnbull, the children and the schools that need the most help, get most of his cuts.

Public schools educate 74 per cent of students with disabilities, 82 per cent of kids from the bottom quarter of socio-economic advantage, and 84 per cent of Indigenous kids.

Under Labor the neediest schools will get the biggest funding increases, in the shortest time. Most of the neediest schools are public schools, they will get the most funding by far.

Labor will stop Malcolm Turnbull’s cuts to schools.  We’ll restore every dollar the Liberals have cut.

Labor believes Australian kids deserve the world’s best schools, with the world’s best teaching, not the Liberals’ cuts.

Mr Turnbull’s school could see fewer teachers, less one-on-one attention for our kids, and less help with the basics like reading, writing, and maths.

At the same time as Malcolm Turnbull is cutting schools, he’s making life easier for big business and millionaires by giving them tax cuts.

Mr Turnbull thinks looking after his mates at the top end of town is more important than giving kids a decent education.  His priorities are all wrong.

Australians have a clear choice: Labor, that will invest in their kids’ schools, or the Liberals who will rip money away.

Only Labor will help parents get the education they want for their kids.
