EARTHQUAKE IN NEPAL AND NORTHERN INDIA
Labor expresses its deep sadness at the news a massive earthquake has struck Nepal and northern India, killing more than 1300 people.
Our thoughts are with the people of both Nepal and India, the injured, and the families and friends of those who have lost their lives in the tragedy.
We call on the Australian Government to offer every assistance towards recovery efforts.
Labor has asked the Government for urgent advice about the safety of Australians reported to have been in the area at the time. Australians that need help, or are concerned about the safety of their loved ones, should call the Australian Government's 24 hour emergency consular helpline on 1300 555 135 (within Australia), +61 2 6261 3305 (outside Australia), +61 421 269 080 (by SMS).
We urge Australians in Nepal or northern India, and those thinking of travelling to the region, to follow the advice of our Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
