LABOR ANNOUNCES MAJOR $1 MILLION UPGRADE FOR MEERCROFT PARK
Devonport junior soccer players and other sporting groups will benefit from a major $1 million upgrade to Meercroft Park announced today by Labor’s candidate for Braddon, Justine Keay.
Ms Keay said Labor’s $1 million investment would help fund new change rooms, club rooms, storage, a meeting room, kitchen, and canteen.
“More than 1200 local players and their families use Meercroft Park every week, but the facilities haven’t been upgraded since they were built in the 1960s,” Ms Keay said.
“My kids play soccer here, I’m a Meercroft Mum - so I’m at the Park all the time. Every family I speak to agrees the facilities need urgent work.
“We are proud of our local soccer team, the Devonport Strikers - we all want to be proud of the facilities at Meercroft Park too.
“I want to thank the Meercroft Park Facilitates Committee and Devonport Council for proposing this important project.
“I call on the Liberals to match Labor’s commitment.”
Ms Keay made the $1 million commitment alongside Labor’s Deputy Leader, Tanya Plibersek.
“Justine is an incredible fighter for her local community,” Ms Plibersek said.
“She has been working so hard to get support for this project.
“Labor is delighted to be delivering $1 million for the upgrade.
“Every parent wants their kids to get outside and lead an active life.
“In particular I hope this upgrade will encourage more young girls into soccer.
“How exciting would it be if a future star of the Socceroos or the Matildas could say they got their start at Meercroft Park?
“Labor can afford to invest in the Devonport community because unlike the Liberals, we aren’t giving $17 billion to the big banks.
“The sad truth is that Malcolm Turnbull just doesn’t care about Devonport , he only ever looks out for the top end of town.”
