LABOR CONGRATULATES AUSTRALIAN CRICKET TEAM ON WORLD CUP VICTORY

Labor congratulates the Australian men’s cricket team on their victory in the World Cup Final against New Zealand in Melbourne.

All Australians are celebrating the incredible achievements of captain Michael Clarke and his players as well as coach Darren Lehmann and all of the support staff in delivering Australia’s fifth World Cup title.

While the result in the tournament was a team victory, special congratulations go to Mitchell Starc who was named player of the tournament.

Labor acknowledges the outstanding career of Michael Clarke, who retired from One Day International cricket at the end of yesterday’s match.

Labor also congratulates the International Cricket Council and the local organisers of the World Cup.

The tournament has been an outstanding success, capturing the imagination of cricket fans across Australia and the world.

Over one million people attended the 49 matches across Australia and New Zealand and yesterday’s crowd of 93,013 was an Australian record attendance for a One Day International.

Labor looks forward to Australia defending our title at the next World Cup in 2019.
