LABOR'S INVESTMENT TO KEEP THE MUNDINE GYM OPEN

A Shorten Labor Government will keep the Redfern Gym (also known as Mundine Gym) open by assisting with relocation costs and the lease of new premises.

The Aboriginal Housing Company's Pemulwuy redevelopment project on "The Block" in Redfern is due to start soon. While that happens, the Redfern Gym will have to temporarily relocate.

It is very important that the Gym continues to operate while the Pemulwuy Project is underway given the important role it plays in the local community.

A Shorten Labor Government will invest $200,000 to help keep relocate the Gym. Without this funding, the Gym will have to close until the Pemulwuy Project is completed.

Redfern Gym first opened in 1984 and has been a second home for much of the local community since that time.

It is a Redfern institution where people come together, and where they can find support.

The Redfern Gym provides a positive and supportive environment that changes lives.  It shouldn’t be forced to close its doors.
