THE HON TANYA PLIBERSEK MP
DEPUTY LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION
SHADOW MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
MEMBER FOR SYDNEY
Last night, 15 months after flight MH17 was shot down, the Dutch Safety Board released an official report on the crash, presenting the results of a multinational investigation.
The report concludes the cause of the crash of MH17 was the explosion of a 9N314M-type warhead fired from eastern Ukraine using a Buk surface-to-air missile system.
These conclusions mean the Russian Government still has serious questions to answer.
At this time, our thoughts are with the loved ones of the 298 victims, including the 38 Australians.
Labor fully supports all efforts to see that the perpetrators of this terrible crime are brought to justice.
We also urge the international community to act on the report's findings and recommendations in relation to flying over conflict areas, and passenger information.
Labor acknowledges the efforts of all of those who contributed to the report. In particular, we give thanks to the Dutch Safety Board, who led the work, and to all the Australian experts involved.
