PETER DUTTON CONFIRMS SUPPORT FOR CUTTING PENALTY RATES

In a radio interview with Neil Mitchell on 3AW this morning, Peter Dutton confirmed his support for cutting penalty rates.

NEIL MITCHELL: Penalty rates, would you change that approach?
PETER DUTTON: No I wouldn’t.

It doesn’t matter who is leading the Liberals, the one thing that unites them is their support for penalty rate cuts.

In Peter Dutton’s own electorate of Dickson, more than 11,400 workers - one in six workers in the retail, food and accommodation industries - could be affected by the cuts.

These workers stand to lose up to $77 per week.  Cutting penalty rate takes money from the local economy as workers have less disposable income to spend.

Under the Liberals we are heading towards a low wage, easy to hire, easy to fire society.

Only Labor will protect penalty rates and ensure they can never be cut again.

Labor will restore penalty rates in our first 100 days of government and legislate to lock them in.

Wages growth has hit record lows, but the Liberals don’t care.

The Liberals support cuts to penalty rates at the same time as they want to give a $17 billion tax handout to the big banks. Their priorities are all wrong.
