BOMBING IN BANGKOK, THAILAND

Labor is appalled by the bombing overnight of a shrine in central Bangkok.  This terrible attack on innocent people has shocked us all.

Our deepest sympathies are with the families of those killed, with the injured, and all those affected by this terrible event. Our thoughts are with the people of Thailand.

At this difficult time we are reminded of the inspiring words in the Thai national anthem – “All Thais intend to unite together. Thais are peace-loving, but fight with courage.  They shall allow no one to rob them of freedom.”

Australians in Thailand, and those planning to travel, should follow the advice of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and stay current with the Smart Traveller website at http://www.smartraveller.gov.au.

For any Australians that might need assistance, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's 24 Hour Consular Emergency contact is 1300 555 135, or from outside Australia +61 2 6261 3305 (telephone) +61 421 269 080 (SMS).
